Janet Jackson Song Can Crash Your Computer
Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation CD has the ability to crash certain laptops. According to software engineer, Raymond Chen this is not a hoax. Raymond Chen stated that “A major computer manufacturer discovered that playing the music video for Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation’ would crash certain models of laptops. ” Based on Janet Jackson’s Instagram post, playing the Rhythm Nation video or song will cause your laptop to crash. If you happen to play the music video on one laptop, it could cause the other to crash. The crash is only based on the Rhythm Nation song.
Raymond Chen stated. “It turns out that the song contained one of the natural resonant frequencies for the model of 5400 rpm laptop hard drives that they and other manufacturers used.” News.sky.com explains how the Rhythm Nation effects laptops. “Because sounds are simply acoustic waves, there is a wavelength or frequency for each material that can create the most vibration, known as the medium’s resonant frequency. For the affected laptops – which were shipped in approximately 2005, according to a vulnerability report filed by The Mitre Corporation – that frequency was in the Janet Jackson music video.”
Apparently older laptops are affected by the song. If you just bought a newer computer then don’t try this at home. It will not work. The video below proves that Rhythm Nation can crash older computers. Microsoft fixed the problem. Microsoft stated that “a custom filter in the audio pipeline that detected and removed the offending frequencies during audio playback.”
Janet Jackson didn’t comment on this story. Why would she. More people are streaming her music to see if it does actually crash a laptop. The more streams the more money in her pocket. This post caused Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation to increase its YouTube views. If I had an older computer, I would have tried it. Back in 2019, Janet Jackson was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
