I've been all about ice cream as of late. So when I saw this bit on Massachusetts' favorite ice cream flavors, I just had to share.
Yesterday, I shared something else ice cream-related. It was a piece on New England's favorite ice cream truck treats. If you check it out, you'll see, state-by-state, what frozen goodies New Englanders buy the most when the ice cream truck shows up on their street. There's also a link in the piece if you want to see what the rest of the United States of America is treating themselves to.
And while I'm plugging my other ice cream "reports," allow me to plug this: my favorite North Shore ice cream spots. You'll likely find a few of your own favorites there. I’ve also cobbled together a list of Friendly’s in the greater Boston area. Contrary to popular belief, Friendly's is still alive and well in the Commonwealth. They're not as omnipresent as a generation ago, but they're still out there.
Massachusetts' Favorite Ice Cream Flavors
Let's bring it back to the basics now. BetMassachusetts did a little digging around to answer this question: what are the fave ice cream flavors in the Commonwealth? How'd they do it? they "utilized Google Trends to determine the most searched ice cream flavors by each state of YouGov’s data on the Top 11 most popular ice cream flavors in 2018. After completing the trends over the past 12 months (from July 6, 2022, to July 6, 2023), we were able to find results to get the top five flavors."
So basically, they scooped the ice cream, and now I'm serving it up to you. Keep scrolling to see what the Top 5 favorite ice cream flavors are here in Massachusetts. Spoiler alert: the list should be inverted. No. 5 should actually be No. 1. But that's just my take.
T5) Rocky Road
How is this not No. 1? It's got everything you love about ice cream in every scoop! Hell, they even did a Rolling Stones-themed version of it!
T5) Strawberry
I've never been a big fan of strawberry ice cream. Probably because I'm not a big fan of strawberries. This version, however, I'd try.
3) Chocolate
I can't say I'm happy with chocolate not topping this list since rocky road isn't topping this list. A good scoop of chocolate ice cream is maybe the best ice cream experience you can have.
2) Cookies & Cream
This will please both of my kids. They've grown up, so their ice cream palates have gotten a bit more refined. But this was their first favorite flavor. Throw it in an ice cream sandwich and DAMN.
1) Vanilla
Vanilla. No. 1. Shouldn't even be in the Top 10, let alone the Top 5. Bogus.
