Woman Settles for $3 Million in Burn Lawsuit Over Dunkin’s Hot Coffee

I remember hearing about this story: a woman suing Dunkin' over burns she got as a result of Dunkin's coffee being too hot! I remember thinking A) this is reminiscent of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, maybe if it was set in 2023 those bears would have lawsuits on their hands! And B) But I like my hot coffee hot.
But I can understand the woman's pain and suffering are very real. The 70 year old woman from Georgia received 3rd degree burns and life-altering injuries as a result of the coffee falling in her lap. Her main gripe was that the lid was not properly secured when it was handed to her, leading to the unfortunate occurrence.
Morgan & Morgan, the woman's attorney, said in a release that the woman endured burns to her thighs, groin, and abdomen resulting in $200,000 worth of medical bills. Now she's getting that back 15 fold.
The Georgia Dunkin’ franchisee is paying the woman $3 million to settle the lawsuit. “America may run on Dunkin’, but our client had to re-learn how to walk due to the severity of her burns,” said attorney Benjamin Welch in a statement.
