Today is National French Fry Day. A day we celebrate the fact that someone once thought to cut up a potato and fry the pieces. What an amazing concept. The debate over who has the best fries continues to this day. There are quite a few organizations who have taken on the task of ranking the best FAST FOOD french fries. But I (Melissa) read them and went with who I believe is more right on. I’m going with the ranking from the website www.eatthis.com. They went to the following places: Arby’s, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Five Guys, McDonald’s, Shake Shack and Wendy’s and judged the fries on texture taste. It’s really that simple. They also went with fries that were drowned in salt and had a crispy outer edge and fluffier potato in the middle. Now this debate will continue until the end of time. But let’s just take this ranking in and today, let’s celebrate the mere fact that such a thing as a french fry exists.

  • #7 Burger King

The crew at eatthis.com say they were served stale fries but even when they went back for more, they couldn’t get over the “fake potato taste.” I couldn’t agree more.

Burger King Surprises Wall Street With Large Rise In Quarterly Earning

SAN FRANCISCO – AUGUST 21: A container of Burger King french fries sit on a tray at a Burger King restaurant August 21, 2008 in San Francisco, California. Burger King, the second largest hamburger chain in the U.S., surprised Wall Street today with better than excected quarterly earnings. The company reported a surge in net income with earnings of $51 million, or 37 cents per share compared to $36 million, or 26 cents per share one year ago. (Photo by Justin Sullivan/Getty Images)

  • #6 Wendy's

I personally would’ve  moved Wendy’s up further on the list. But the crew from eatthis.com say they looked “limp” and “underwhelming.” They also said they tasted the most like an actual baked potato. Why they came in at #6 is beyond me but, this is their list not mine.

Wendy's To Cut Trans Fats With New Cooking Oil

MIAMI – JUNE 08: Wendy’s french fries and chicken nuggets wait to be placed in an order June 8, 2006 in Miami, Florida. In a move that significantly reduces trans fatty acids on its menu, Wendy’s is making the switch to non-hydrogenated cooking oil for its French fries and breaded chicken items. The oil has zero grams of trans fat per serving. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images)

  • #5 Chik-fil-A

I LOVE these fries because of the Chik-fil-A sauce but we can’t judge on that. It’s the fry only. One person said “Too much potato, not enough crunch.” Although when it comes to waffle fries, eatthis.com staffers say they are the best.

  • #4 Five Guys

The crew at eatthis.com gives credit to Five Guys for giving the most fries in each bag. They also mention how they’re cooked in peanut oil and seasoned with regular salt.

  • #3 Arby's

Curly fries are different and the reason eatthis.com puts them toward the top of the list. Unfortunately their batch that day were not great. Some liked the spicy seasoning, some didn’t. But overall, this fry is third best.

  • #2 McDonald's

Personally, Mcdonald’s always tops my list. Nothing beats them when they’re fresh and crispy. But according to eatthis.com, they’re great and almost perfect but can at times be too soggy.

  • #1 Shake Shack

Ahhhhhhhhh crinkle cut fries end up on top of this list. One ranker said  “They taste like a real potato–perfectly crunchy and salty.” Overall, Shake Shack triumphed over them all.
