The Boston Celtics have won Banner 18! It has been a long roller coaster of a season but it’s been well worth it. Clinching a record setting 18th banner is something that seemed inevitable for the Celtics who were the best team in the NBA all season long. The team won 64 games in the regular season and only lost 3 games TOTAL in the post season. You could most definitely tell that 2024 was the year of the Boston Celtics.
The Garden was electric
If you had an opportunity to go to Game 5, you will remember that for the rest of your life. I have never seen the Garden that loud and the energy was inspiring. From the opening tip off, to Payton Pritchard nailing a 3 point shot from half court to end the half, there was a lot to scream about at the Garden. Banner 18 ironically comes exactly 16 years after the Celtics’ last championship, which they won on June 17, 2008.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown finally get it done
There was a lot of talk last season to split these two up. They’ve been together since 2017 and they have NEVER missed the playoffs. After the Celtics’ loss in the Eastern Conference Finals last season, many Celtics fans and analysts alike were calling for them to be split. Many believed the two would never be able to win a championship together. That was certainly proven wrong last night. And either one of them could’ve been crowned the Finals MVP which eventually went to Jaylen Brown.
After experiencing such a masterful win, I wanted to share with you some of my favorite moments of the night. These are my 6 favorite moments from Game 5 of the NBA Finals and the accomplishment of winning Banner 18 for the Celtics and the city of Boston.
