There really is nothing like Salem, Massachusetts during Halloween season. From the people I know that live in Salem, they tell me the festivities in the city are getting earlier and earlier each year. You’ll typically start seeing tourists coming into Salem toward mid to end of August when historically, events would be limited to the month of October only. People love visiting Salem during Halloween season because of its rich history (Salem Witch Trials) AND its haunted houses, locations etc. The Haunted Happenings Grand Parade is an annual parade that officially kicks off the Halloween season in Salem and is run by the Salem Chamber of Commerce. Last night’s parade was its 26th annual.
The theme for last night’s parade was “Myths & Legends.” What does this mean? According to the website: “Salem, like many historical places, is full of Myths and Legends! A mythological creature from the ocean? A legendary, local school teacher? A spirit from Salem’s past? Show us your favorites in the parade!” You will see from the photos, there were several costumes that represented this year’s theme. There were also your staple costumes like Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers. There was a Ghostbusters car, actual Ghostbusters, lots of candy being handed out, several Salem businesses being represented and so much more.
If you didn’t make it to last night’s Grand Parade, never fear. You can relive it through these photos. For future reference though, you MUST attend the Grand Parade at least once in your life. The city of Salem really goes all out for anyone who is lucky enough to attend. There was plenty of places to watch along the parade route and the entire parade lasted about an hour. Make your plans for Salem’s Grand Parade of 2024. You won’t regret it. Enjoy 2023’s parade in pictures!
