Boston is the #2 sports city in America. This is according to a new study from WalletHub that took a look at several categories before making its decision. They analyzed 397 cities across more than 50 key metrics related to the five largest sports in the U.S.: football, basketball, baseball, soccer and hockey. Not only should Boston be #1, but I will go a step further. There is NO way the city that beat us should be #1. Let’s dive in a little further and found out how Boston was ranked at #2.

So first off, it’s soccer and its fanbase (or lack thereof) that’s bringing Boston down. In the rankings of all 5 major sports, soccer is ranked #14 in the country. Now this is simply after the polling experts from WalletHub asked people in each city which sport they follow. Also, each sport is weighted differently. Football is the highest weighted sport at 54%. Then it drops drastically. Basketball is weighted next at 16%. Next is baseball at 13%. Soccer is next at 11%. Then hockey is last at only 6%. This may be a key reason why Boston is not #1. Boston was actually ranked the #1 city in America for hockey which is weighted the least on the WalletHub poll. So you understand now how this is all determined.

We will now show you the rankings of the top 10 sports cities in America. You can agree or disagree but the numbers don’t lie. And when we get to #1, you can certainly sit back and wonder just like the rest of us how this city beat us. There are also other shocking rankings in the top 10. Let us know if you agree with this list or not In the meantime, we all know there is no debating that Boston is THE BEST sports city to live in in the WORLD. We can just end that discussion NOW!

  • #10 Cincinnati, OH

They rank 8th in football, 56th in basketball, 8th in baseball, 16th in soccer and 450th in hockey. And let’s be honest. When you think of sports cities, Cincinnati is NOT one that jumps to mind. Ever.

  • #9 San Francisco, CA

They rank 11th in football, 3th in basketball, 7th in baseball, 190th in soccer and 450th in hockey.  San Fran also has a women’s soccer team that the area can get behind. But we’ll echo Cincinnati when we say, when you think of sports towns, you definitely don’t think of San Francisco.

  • #8 Washington, DC

They rank 18th in football, 7th in basketball, 24th in baseball, 6th in soccer and 13th in hockey.  DC of course home to the Washington Commanders, Washington Wizards, Washington Nationals, Washington Capitals, and D.C. United.

  • #7 Philadelphia, PA

They rank 15th in football, 4th in basketball, 12th in baseball, 12th in soccer and 16th in hockey. Okay, now we’re getting there. We can definitely get behind this although we HATE Eagles fans here. Home of the Phillies, Eagles, 76ers and Flyers.

  • #6 Miami, FL

They rank 7th in football, 6th in basketball, 26th in baseball, 7th in soccer and 450th in hockey. Okay, this has to be a joke. The people in Miami couldn’t care LESS about sports. They all just wanna hit Ocean Drive and the beach…right? Makes no sense!

  • #5 Dallas, TX

They rank 3rd in football, 15th in basketball, 262nd in baseball, 19th in soccer and 17th in hockey.  Dallas of course home to Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, Dallas Stars, Dallas Jackals, Dallas Wings and FC Dallas.

  • #4 New York, NY

They rank 6th in football, 8th in basketball, 1st in baseball, 9th in soccer and 4th in hockey.  Surprised New York wasn’t higher than fourth. The Jets, Knicks, Mets, Yankees, Rangers, Nets, NYC FC all play here. And the Yankees are constantly voted America’s #1 baseball team.

  • #3 Pittsburgh, PA

They rank 1st in football, 124th in basketball, 11th in baseball, 31st in soccer and 2nd in hockey. Pittsburgh bleeds black and gold for its major sports teams Penguins, Pirates and Steelers.

  • #2 Boston, MA

They rank 4th in football, 2nd in basketball, 5th in baseball, 14th in soccer and 1st in hockey. Okay, this is why we aren’t #1…because we are first in hockey and hockey is weighted so low on the scale. Either way, we know what’s up. NO WAY the city in first place beat us.

  • #1 Los Angeles, CA

They rank 5th in football, 1st in basketball, 2nd in baseball, 1st in soccer and 23rd in hockey.
