Looking for a romantic getaway? Believe it or not, Valentine’s Day is right around the corner (a little over a month away) so people are looking for places to go for getaways in and around New England. Thanks to Travel + Leisure, we now have a list of some of the most romantic getaways in New England, one here in Massachusetts. It’s actually in Boston. Before we get to mentioning which one, let’s take into account what characteristics were considered when coming up with this list.

According to Travel + Leisure: “These spots offer something special for every type of couple and interest — scenic state parks with beautiful proposal-worthy backdrops, romantic urban escapes for those looking to enjoy city sights, and quirky attractions where you’re sure to create lifelong memories.” So think of these qualities when you hear these places. Even if you’re not looking to propose and you just want somewhere beautiful and fun to take your partner, you can’t go wrong with any of the places on this list.

As far as Massachusetts, you don’t have to go further than Boston for romance. According to Travel + Leisure, the Public Garden is the most romantic place in Massachusetts. It is America’s first public botanical garden. Over 80 species of plants are cultivated there.   • Boston's Public Garden

    Established in 1837, this gorgeous garden is located at 4 Charles Street in Boston. There are beautiful plants to admire not to mention the Swan Boats are something to see.

  • Saybrook Breakwater Lighthouse - CT

    Built in 1886, this lighthouse is located at Route 154 Maine St off Route 95 near Old Saybrook center.  Unfortunately, the lighthouse itself is not publicly accessible BUT is visible from the shores of Old Saybrook. 

  • Isle au Haut - Maine

    Isle au Haut is a town in Knox County, Maine.  It is only accessible by ferry from Stonington. It is popular for mountain bikes and hiking trails. There is a lot of camping  here as well. 

  • Ice Castles - NH

    If you live in and around Boston, chances are you’ve been to the Ice Castles in the winter. Located at 24 Clark Farm Rd, North Woodstock, NH, they have slides, tunnels, caves and just gorgeous views and their primary goal is “to make people smile.” 

  • Mohegan Bluffs - RI

    Located on the southern shore of Block Island, these bluffs contain cliffs that are 150 feet high. It has been described as having the most dramatic views in all of Rhode Island.

  • Scenic Route 100 Byway - Vermont

    Also known as “Vermont’s Main Street” and “The Skier’s Highway,” this stretch of road is known as connecting the best skiing and riding. You can also bike, hike and golf here. It’s been described as one of the most scenic routes in the country.
