The Devil Wears Prada sequel is coming! It’s words the movie’s fan base have been dying to hear for a long time. Yes, there is a sequel to the 2006 movie coming. But there is one catch. There will be one major star missing.

Meryl Streep will reprise her role as Miranda

The great news for fans of the movie is that Meryl Streep has signed on to reprise her role as Miranda Priestly. Emily Blunt is also rumored to be returning as Miranda’s assistant Emily Charlton. However, there is one major star who has allegedly not signed on to the film and is not expected to.

Anne Hathaway not expected to reprise her role as Andy Sachs

While the actual cast of the sequel has not been confirmed, it is rumored that Anne Hathaway will not be returning. Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna is also rumored to be returning and the movie is allegedly in development at Disney although there has been no official word as of yet. While it most certainly looks like this sequel is happening, we still don’t know for sure who is and who is not on board. A rumored plot is that the movie will focus on the demise of fashion magazines.

Reps at Disney have not commented as of this morning and no other details about the sequel have been revealed. In the meantime, let’s take a look at some of the more successful movie sequels of all time. These top 6 movie sequels actually were more critically acclaimed and loved by their fans more than the original films.

  • #6 Aliens 1986

    Aliens is the sequel to the 1979 movie Alien. While the original movie grossed over 184 million dollars, Aliens, the sequel grossed over 150 million worldwide.

  • #5 The Godfather Part II

    The Godfather Part II is the sequel to the original Godfather movie that was released in 1972. The sequel was released in 1974 and earned over $90 million at the box office. It is both a sequel and a prequel focusing on the story of Michael Corleone’s father Vito.

  • #4 The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

    This 2003 sequel to The Lord of the Rings grossed over $1 billion in the box office. Not too shabby seeing as the budget for the film was around $90 million. In 2004 the film won all the categories for which it was nominated at the Academy Awards. 

  • #3 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

    This 1980 sequel to Star Wars (1977) grossed over $530 million world wide. It did take home Best Sound at the 1981 Academy Awards. 

  • #2 Terminator 2: Judgement Day

    Terminator 2 is a fan favorite and many fans of the franchise put it well above the original Terminator movie. James Cameron returned to direct the  1991 movie that made over $500 million at the box office. 

  • #1 The Dark Knight

    Fans can agree, The Dark Knight is a far better movie than Batman Begins. It made over $1 billion at the box office.
