If you’re a woman living in the United States, you should really move to Massachusetts. This according to a new study from WalletHub who just released its data for “Best & Worst States for Women.” The criteria and categories measured include:

• Median Earnings for Female Workers (Adjusted for Cost of Living)unemployment Rate for Women
• Share of Women in Poverty
• Share of Women-Owned Businesses
• High School Graduation Rate for Women
• Share of Women Who Voted in 2020 Presidential Election
• Female Uninsured Rate
• Women’s Life Expectancy at Birth
• Quality of Women’s Hospitals
• Women’s Preventive Health Care

Massachusetts has one of the lowest unemployment rates for women in the United States at 2.8%. We also have some of the best health care here and the best hospitals. All of this leads to some of the best rankings in the country. However, there is one category where Massachusetts ranks just average for women. And that is “Median earnings for female workers (adjusted for cost of living). Massachusetts ranks 24th in the country which is just average.

Before we fill you in on the top 7 best states for women in the United States, let’s look at the worst. If you’re a woman living in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana or Oklahoma you may want to consider moving. Oklahoma is the absolute worst state to live in if you’re a woman.

But, on the positive side, let’s take a look at the 7 best states to live if you’re a woman.

  • #7 New York

    New York ranks third for health care and safety. If you’re a woman living in New York, there are endless opportunities for you. They rank tenth for economic and well being. This video gives tips on how to live in New York as a woman and be safe.

  • #6 Maryland

    Maryland ranks fifth for economic and well being. Women in Maryland have some of the best opportunities “right in our own backyard.” Maryland ranks 8th for health care and safety.

    WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 25 key indicators of living standards for women.

  • #5 Maine

    Maine is one of three New England states in the top 10. It ranks second for economic and social well being. Things are more serene in Maine and stress levels aren’t as high.

  • #4 Vermont

    Vermont is one of three New England states in the top 10. It ranks sixth for health care and safety. It ranked #7 last year for working mothers. It ranked high in child care access, opportunities for https://thinkvermont.com/neighbors/vermont-is-no-7-in-the-nation-for-working-mothers/professional growth, and life-work balance.

  • #3 Minnesota

    Minnesota ranked third for economic and social well being. Their unemployment rate for women actually has them first. It also has the second highest median earnings for women in the country.

    Personal finance website WalletHub looked at America's 50 states and ranked them in terms of women-friendly categories like median pay, education and health.

  • #2 District of Columbia

    D.C. ranks first for economic and social well being. D.C. actually has the highest median earnings for women in the entire country. Although the unemployment rate for women in D.C. actually ranks last. So that is important to consider.

  • #1 Massachusetts

    And Massachusetts ranks high in several areas, making it the #1 state in the country to live as a woman. It ranks first for the unemployment rate and first for the female uninsured rate. The median earnings for women is only average, at 24th.
