The Diaper Spa in Atkinson, New Hampshire has been the subject of much criticism since it was thrust in the spotlight several months ago. Back in January, news about the diaper spa circulated as residents in Atkinson began to voice concerns. The owner of the spa, Dr. Colleen Ann Murphy, offers a wide range of services. Services range from virtual play dates and a full blown diaper B&B experience. However, because of the neighbors who showed up Wednesday to a town zoning board meeting, that will be a distant memory.
What is an ABDL fantasy? ABDL stands for adult baby diaper lovers. ABDL people are one “who act a voluntary regression to a previous age and/or wear a diaper for psychological reasons.” That is according to a study from 2020. While some say ABDL is considered sexual, Dr. Murphy stresses the majority of her clients’ cases are not. So why are the residents of Atkinson so worried?
According to some of the town’s 7,000 residents, they are concerned. They don’t like the close proximity of the spa to local parks and they don’t want their children exposed to the behavior. A petition had been going around and had been signed by hundreds of people. It read: “potential incidents that pose a threat to the safety and well-being of our community members, particularly our children.”
After hearing several residents of Atkinson speak, the board rejected the spa’s application. Dr. Murphy now has 30 days to appeal the decision. Here is what the Diaper Spa is offering for services according to its website:
