I really need to put the chocolate down ASAP! OK, now let’s be real. Jennifer Lopez and Jennifer Aniston do have access to things that most people don’t… tons of money to enlist a personal trainer, nutritionist, chef and time to look this good at this age. But it’s still an accomplishment and motivation to be healthy and happy with your body at any age. They just happen to be making hitting the fifties not look so hopeless!
I have a friend, who is in her thirties, tell me that all of her girlfriends were saying, “we still have time” after watching J-Lo (who is 50) and Shakira (who just turned 43 on February 2nd) perform during this year’s Super Bowl halftime show.
Jennifer Aniston turned 51 yesterday (February 11th) and did this photo shoot for an article in Interview Magazine (the third pic in the shoot shows off her amazing thighs) where she is interviewed by Sandra Bullock.
In the article Jen said to Sandra, “Our industry has expanded its horizons in that way, and I think it’s because women have stood up and said, ‘We’re mad as hell, and we’re not going to take it anymore.’
Think of the generation ahead of us. So many of those women were put out to pasture when they were 40, and the fact that we get to still be working and are actually coming into our most creative adventures ever at this point in our life—we’re rewriting that narrative that society sort of plastered on us. I remember the messaging to me even in my 30s was, ‘Don’t play a mom, and if you do play a mom make sure it’s to a 3-year-old kid.’ And single! And the kid is just a baby.
That’s not the case anymore. You’ve sustained the same career from the time you were in your wee 20s. Is it just a fortunate window of time that we got to enter into the business when we did, and so this moment is happening? Whatever it is, we won’t ever be able to know because who gives a sh*t, it’s happening. Thirty years from now, we’ll get to look back—”
Sandra Bullock finished the thought: “And we’ll all be at the same nursing home. I’ll help you with your teeth, you’ll help me with my diapers.”
