We knew that Alicia Keys was going to perform her new song, “LA LA” with Swae Lee for the first time at the VMAs. We could have guessed that in NYC, the day after the world remembered those lost on September 11th twenty years ago, Alicia would pay tribute to her city with it as a backdrop while performing a beautiful version of “Empire State of Mind.”
