This New England Small City is One of the Fastest Growing Places in America
The U.S. Census Bureau keeps track of all sorts of data. I bet they have thousands of folders filled with thousands of papers, most of which nobody will ever look at again, filled with so… much… data. Some fairly interesting data they keep track of is about migration. No, they’re not tracking birds and their fall flight patterns. They’re looking at human migration. What places are growing in population more quickly? What places’ population is sharply declining?
According to the latest information available, the U.S. Census Bureau has released the 25 Fastest Growing Places in America and only one New England city or town made the list. Florida had way more in the Top 25 than all New England states combined – and again that total combined number is a whopping ONE, so beating us all combined isn’t as big of a feat as it initially seems.
Number one on the list, and therefore the fastest growing place in America, is Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. It’s population increased by 4.46% in the year observed. Sarasota, Florida came in second with a population increase of 3.55%. Fort Myers, Florida, Lakeland, Florida, and Port St. Lucie, Florida round out the top 5.
Florida had the most states in the Top 25. 10 of the Top 25 Fastest Growing Places in America were in the Sunshine State.
Who was New England’s one and only Fastest Grower? Portland, Maine. It came in 24th with a population increase of 1.17%.
So New England isn’t the fastest growing region in the country. But the most beautiful this time of year? You bet your booty!!
The worldly jet-setting staff at The Travel are out with the Top 10 Best Places for Best Fall Foliage in the entire world and Massachusetts made the Top 10! It would be one thing if we made the Top 10 in America – duh, of course! – but the entire globe?? Woah. That’s some high praise. And not only that, New England got three states in the Top 10 *high five*! And those 3 states are the only 3 states that made the World’s Top 10.
