It’s Time! The Highly Anticipated 2024 Sullivan’s Opening Day Is Finally Here
When you think opening day, what comes to mind. For a lot of people, it means the Red Sox. But for a whole lot of other people, it means opening day of the iconic Sullivan’s Castle Island. It’s the day we’ve been dreaming of. While we’ve been suffering through this cold winter, thoughts of loaded hot dogs, crispy fried clams, creamy chowder, and luscious lobster rolls have had us yearning for the first signs of spring. Well opening day of Sullivan’s is one of those signs.
The story of Sullivan’s Castle Island
On their website, Sullivan’s tells us that they first opened back in 1951. It opened on Castle Island in South Boston and as they say, the rest is history. Dan Sullivan Sr. started Sullivan’s because he wanted to provide quality food at reasonable prices in a family friendly atmosphere. I think I speak for everyone when I say, mission accomplished Mr. Sullivan. Four generations of the Sullivan family have worked at the “stand.” The current brick building that you visit today was constructed in 1986.
Sullivan’s locations
In addition to the Castle Island location, you can get your fried clams or fish sandwich at their Hanover Crossing location. It’s at 1775 Washington Street in Hanover. Open Monday – Thursday 11am – 9:30pm, Friday and Saturday 11am – 10:30pm, and Sundays from 11am – 9:30pm. There is also a location at Hub Hall, 80 Causeway St. It’s open daily from 11am – 7pm.
2024 Opening Day Sullivan’s Castle Island
Sullivan’s will open on Saturday, March 2nd. They celebrated on Instagram letting us know that, “The hot dogs have arrived!” They’ll be open Monday through Friday from 10am to 6pm, and from 9am to 6pm on the weekend.
This is all good news! I know I’m excited to go grab a hot dog, raspberry lime rickey, and a walk around the Castle Island loop. Such a great walk. In case you’re wondering, one loop around if you start at Sullivan’s is about a mile and a half. Happy walking and happy eating! Here are some of the Sullivan’s favorites on the menu.
