National Cocktail Day: My Massachusetts Drink Of Choice
I invite you to pull up a seat at a Massachusetts restaurant that makes my favorite drink in the state. This Sunday, March 24, is officially “National Cocktail Day.” That means it’s all the more reason to head to your favorite local establishment and order your drink of choice.
First, on this day that tributes such a spirited beverage, it’s more than acceptable to treat it respectfully by not grabbing any of the most convenient cocktails. Better yet, take a moment to sip something that you truly enjoy.
So, what does that entail? There are certainly the non-negotiable basics. A cocktail that has a foundation consisting of something you like to have. In addition, what else goes hand-in-hand with a great cocktail? It should be relaxing, smooth, and enjoyable to sip.
With all due respect, we are not aiming for a shot here. A great signature cocktail can accompany your seating for a long duration of time. Sometimes, the first pour is so good that you prefer to nurture the glass instead of rushing to have a second one.
Think about that first sip. A long week of work and, finally, your perfect drink to unwind and perhaps celebrate your efforts greets you with a smile.
A Maple Bourbon Sour National Cocktail Day Toast At This Del Frisco’s
Sure, there are Del Frisco’s all over the country. However, on National Cocktail Day the Boston Seaport location is the spot I need to go to for my drink of choice. The location is beautiful, upstairs and elevated over the harbor.
My father, whom I don’t get to see all that often, would always stay across the street when traveling to Boston for business. Our tradition was to meet at Seaport Del Frisco’s. We’d start and end our dining experience with this drink.
The Maple Bourbon Sour uses Whistlepig Bourbon and Whistlepig Aged Maple Syrup, topped with a pinch of bitters and foam. It is perfectly mixed with large ice cubes and served in a heavily weighted glass. The Bourbon is smooth and perfectly accented with a taste of maple (not overwhelming).
Sure, in this situation, the drink itself needs to be the star of the show. Yet, when I think of the perfect drink in Massachusetts for my National Cocktail Day, their overall experience does factor in.
Regardless of the number of times I’ve downed a Maple Bourbon Sour, that first sip is always followed up with an “Ah, that is so good” response. Then, a list of food items off the menu is ordered and indulged.
If you are familiar with Del Frisco’s, you know their lemon cake is on another level. You know what goes great with this dessert order on National Cocktail Day? A nice pour of their Maple Bourbon Sour.
