Snickers or Chicken? Maynard Man Hands Out Market Basket Rotisserie Chicken for Halloween
Halloween is a night children never forget. They get to dress up in costumes representing everything from pop culture icons to scary monsters and witches. Children go from house to house in search of the holy grail of snacks for kids: CANDY! All types of candy from Snickers bars to Hershey bars, to Skittles, to Twix and so much more. But never in any children’s wildest dreams do they go trick or treating to get chicken. Well, that we know of anyway. So why is a Maynard man handing out rotisserie chicken for Halloween?
Michael Marotta of Maynard told Boston.com that the entire idea of handing out the chicken started as social media post and it was meant to be sort of a joke. He posted on the Maynard town Facebook page that his home would have full sized candy bars to hand out in hopes to get a big crowd of kids for Halloween. And in the middle of the post he made a comment along the lines of his wife really wanting him to hand out rotisserie chickens. People commenting had some fun with the post and started to encourage him to really do it. To really hand out rotisserie chickens. After the post got a ton of feedback from people, Michael decided he would give them all what they wanted. So he posted that he was going to Market Basket and the first five kids who would show up to his door, would get rotisserie chickens. BUT he also said in addition to the chicken, the kids could also take home full sized candy bars.
Michael paid $4.69 a piece for the chicken. Ultimately, Michael says he had 20 trick or treaters and two of them actually took chickens home. He brought leftover chickens to local neighbors.
