Members of a Peloton group who have given thousands to servers in MA
Josh Vernon (given permission)Imagine being a server in a small restaurant and realizing you'd just been left a tip of several thousand dollars! This happened to two servers at the Red's Kitchen and Tavern in Peabody on Monday. The tip was handed over by a group called Wicked Smaht Zone who are Peloton enthusiasts who've made it a tradition to bless servers at local restaurants. They started this tradition in January of 2022 when they left another large tip at Lowell's Restaurant in Mendon. That tip was $4,000. Then last year, they left $4,600 for their server at Tavern on the Wharf in Plymouth. A nice gesture for this group who literally can change someone's life by their actions. According to Wicked Smaht Zone member Josh Vernon: "When you have a platform, no matter how small that community might be, I feel there is a responsibility to utilize that reach to Do Wicked Good. As a micro community within the greater Peloton community, we have the opportunity to make a significant impact. We are just a small piece of what this Peloton community really does on a day to day basis, besides workout."
The Wicked Smaht Zone members say they hope their tradition of giving inspires other people to do the same. In this case, Wicked Smaht Zone handed over $7200 to the servers at the Peabody restaurant who, as you can expect, couldn't believe the gesture. But, after realizing it was real, they embraced.

This got us thinking. Remember when we mentioned there was another group of people giving rather large tips to servers on a regular basis? That group was called the "Thousand Dollar Breakfast Club" and they made the news after they left a $1300 tip for a Saugus IHop server. You can relive that story below just keep scrolling.
Imagine being a server at a restaurant and getting a $1,000 tip. It happens. And it happens even more often here in Massachusetts thanks to a group of friends who call themselves the "$1,000 Breakfast Club." Their latest recipient, a server at a Saugus IHOP worker named Tulio Maldonado, got the best tip he's ever received and most likely will ever receive.
It took place this past Saturday when Jeffrey Paris, Richard Brooks and the rest of the "$1,000 Breakfast Club" went in to eat at the IHOP. There was a group of 10 people and Tulio was working extra hard. When it came time to pay the bill, Richard counted out the 13 hundred dollar bills in front of Tulio. As you can expect, Tulio was ecstatic with the unexpected gift of generosity.
Richard Brooks says he started the group because he had heard of a similar group doing the same thing in California. The idea behind it is to post on social media to make others aware and with hopes people will pay it forward. Hopefully with the videos and photos being shared to social media, others will be inspired to do good deeds themselves. According to Jeffrey Paris, one of the group's members, "We aren't celebrities but together we have the power to change someone's life with an unexpected surprise at an unexpected time."
If you'd like to contribute or join the "$1,000 Breakfast Club," you can follow them on Instagram. Their Instagram handle is @thousanddollarbreakfastclub. They started very small and now have a rather large group of people who now consider themselves friends. These friends all have the same mission. And it looks like from these photos, they accomplished that mission. And they will continue to make people smile through their generosity. That's what makes this group so special. Great job $1000 Breakfast Club!
