Sources: Ime Udoka Facing Suspension for Improper Consensual Relationship with Staff Member
Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is facing a suspension for an unknown period of time for what sources are saying is an improper consensual relationship with a member of the team staff. News broke of the looming suspension last night when ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted “ESPN Sources: Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka is facing possible disciplinary action – including a significant suspension – for an unspecified violation of organizational guidelines. Discussions are ongoing within the Celtics on a final determination.” When the news broke we had no idea what the possible suspension was for. We only knew it was a TEAM suspension for a TEAM violation. The NBA itself was not involved leading many to believe it had nothing to do with tampering or other league rules.
Later into the night and early morning, we learned that the violation allegedly has to do with a consensual relationship Ime had with a female staff member of the Celtics which ultimately violates team rules. This is a direct violation of the Celtics code of conduct. Assistant coach Joe Mazzulla could step in as interim coach if Udoka is indeed suspended. We should know soon and as early as today how long the suspension will be for. We may know more details too when Celtics host its annual media day on Monday, September 26. Training camp is set to tip off on Tuesday.
Ime Udoka’s personal life includes a long term relationship with actress Nia Long. The two met through a mutual friend coincidentally enough in Boston back in 2010. They had an instant connection and have been together ever since. She doesn’t post him on her IG much. This is the last post she had up, congratulating him on making the NBA finals in his first year as Celtics head coach. More details to come as more news breaks.
